Painting Portfolio

My paintings are not just images on a canvas; they are portals to the worlds I once effortlessly accessed. They are windows to look through, inviting my audience to step into a visual narrative that doesn’t reveal the beginning or end of a story. Instead, they arrive in the middle, much like we do in our dreams, where the boundaries of reality are blurred and anything is possible.

My works play with depth and flattened shapes to mirror stylized cartoons and toys sold to children. The choice to borrow from these relics of childhood is purposeful. For many people my age, these toys are the cartoonish archetypes of a cultural collective unconscious. They were tools used by children to share their inner lives and made it possible to play together in overlapping worlds. They are the raw materials for a child’s myth-making.

I disregard the rigid laws of form and perspective, as they would only serve to anchor my work in a mundane reality. Instead, I use vivid and discordant colors to remind viewers that my landscapes are from a strange, otherworldly place. They are vaguely threatening, mirroring the role of danger in children's stories. After all, it is through danger that protagonists transform into heroes, a concept that intrigues and captivates us all.
